Meditation for Collective Enlightenment

I wanted to share this beautiful Buddhist mantra with you. I love mantras so much because they create a powerful trance-like meditative state that brings me so much peace. I particularly love mantras in other languages because it takes me right out of my analytical brain and gives my mind the exact medicine that it needs- a break.

This one is Teyate Gate Gate Paragate Parasamgate Bodhi Soha. The loose translation is: gone, gone to the other shore of enlightenment.

The track linked above is by Tibetan monks and Deva Premal. If you haven't heard a lot of Tibetan monk chanting, it can sound a little intense at first. If you can soften into it for the first few seconds, the chanting begins after the bell when Deva Premal's beautiful voice comes in. I have found it to be a really powerful and soothing mantra for meditation.

The intention and meaning of this mantra really struck me as relevant for these times, as we all seek a more enlightened way of being collectively. It's also known as a heart calming mantra.

I chant this mantra using mala beads, as the recitations on the track and the # of beads (108) are a perfect match. If you've never used a mala before to meditate with, it's really easy- you just hold a bead between your thumb and index finger and move along the mala- one bead per mantra. This is an easy way to recite a mantra 108 times AND keep your hands busy :)

Another option would be to place hands in Buddha mudra with the right hand resting in the left hand, right hand fingers pointing left, left hand fingers pointing right and the thumb tips touching lightly. You rest this mudra (hand position) in your lap.
